How me render?

February 16, 2007

Color and value work on this creature thing. This is a pretty shameless ripoff in technique and design, but it makes for fun practice. This “PinkyPillar” demon might look evil, but it actually reads to old people on the weekends. Just goes to show, you can’t always judge a book by its cover.

Chock full of ennui!

Sketch from a costumed figure drawing workshop.  I really enjoy direct drawing; it’s taken me a while to work up to it, but drawing without a net can be lots of fun.

The post title is from an Ivy song, and it means a lot to me this week.

IDKFA

I started drawing this creature, and then realized it was pretty much based on the “Pinky” demon from DOOM, a game I spent a good number of hours sucking at playing. I gave this version human appendages because it’s my belief that seeing human elements in things that shouldn’t be is often creepy.

New post. I’m resolute about being much more consistent in my postings with this new blog. More action scenes — this one doesn’t really make visual sense, unfortunately, but I learned a little about how not to make a punch read. I like each panel individually, but they don’t work so hot together. Until next time — cheers!

Ouch

P.S. Going to bed in a second, but thought I’d put this paintsketch (that a word?). It’s for the Flight forum’s “Blue” challenge. I think the idea of a pretty young girl being depressed amidst ridiculous opulence is kind of funny, offensive, and poignant all at the same time. Not that this is anything original, the Victorians beat me to this hundreds of years ago. So stop it already, you big Victorian crybaby.

Page in progress

An excerpt from a comic story I’m working on. In the final version, the colors won’t go outside the lines, in a tragic concession to conformity and aesthetics.

Comic panel

This is my first WordPress blog, and I have to say, I like the look of it so far. The only problem is that it doesn’t seem to properly save my custom image headers, but hopefully I can fix that soon.

In the meantime, art. Woo!
